Bigfoot meets Chihuahuas, Sasquatch and kittens, silhouettes and line drawings, plaques and papers are the simplicities represented in Leo Kesting Gallery’s latest exhibition titled “Cuddly Need Not Apply” which is set to unveil on Thursday September 25th, 2008.

In this collection, Cuddly Need Not Apply, new works are presented from James Turek of Brooklyn, NY, Casey Porn from Raleigh, NC and Lisa Kuppinger from Chicago, IL.

“So much angry art is being made by angsty youth. Is it truly necessary for everyone in this Juxtapoz laced society to adorn their walls with hate and anger?” asks gallery co-director John Leo. “The world is a tough place, yes, but cat pornography is just as important as the dark art which dominates the LA contemporary scene.”

“Mainstream youth art can be the Andre the Giants or whatever Jonathan Levine is showing right now, or it could be Sucky McDucky and Gay Boy Bunny with their four boobs,” elaborated David Kesting a gallery associate, “We want to give the public a chance to decide.”

Cuddly Need Not Apply will open to the public with a reception for the artists on Thursday September 25th from 7:00 until 10:00 pm and will run until October 12th, 2008.

From its origins as Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn, the Leo Kesting Gallery launched in 2003 and developed an aggressive campaign to introduce new figurative artists to collectors and art supporters. Leo Kesting offers the art viewing public an opportunity to see forthcoming talents in an intimate setting where undiscovered, cutting-edge artists are presented to the contemporary art scene.

Leo Kesting Gallery is located at 812 Washington St at the corner of Gansevoort in Manhattan’s Meat Packing District. A, C, E, or L train to 8th Ave and 14th Street or 1,2,3 train to 14th Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 11am until 7pm.

Unconscious Capture

Monday, September 8th, 2008

New York September 8 – Surveillance cameras attached to crosswalk boxes are the latest attempt to curb terrorism in New York City. Local anti-terrorist activists the Leo Kesting Gallery, who provided a listening station for terrorist internet chatter, unveil their latest anti-terror tool Thursday marking the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

“Adding surveillance cameras to crosswalk stations ensures the authorities are given accurate and reliable photographs of vehicles and persons who could pose a threat to our liberties,” explained John Leo, founder of the new project, entitled “Unconscious Capture”.

The project, presented at the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Streets in New York’s Fashionable Meatpacking District, is to safeguard fashion professionals as well as the Highline Park during fashion week.

Mr. Leo further commented, “Similar to that of a neighborhood watch program, Unconscious Capture ensures this year’s fashion week, with the world’s leading Fashion Designers, Models and Photographers the will be safer then fashion week 2001.”

The device which looks like a normal crosswalk sign encloses a low cost motion detecting camera and optional solar power attachments to ensure a cost effective way to monitor high traffic intersections and deter terrorist activities.

”If effective, Unconscious Capture will give local law enforcement and the Dept of Homeland Security the tools needed to record, and manage digital imagery on a grand scale,” Mr. Kesting added.

The surveillance project will be available for testing at the corner of Gansevoort and Washington starting Thursday September the 11th. Examples of its photography will be viewable at the gallery through Sunday. A reception for the press and public will take place Friday September 12, between 7:00 and 10:00 pm. The exhibition is coordinated with Conflux, the art and technology festival for the creative exploration of urban public space, presented by Glowlab and its founder Christina Ray.
